What does it take for a church to be a church and nothing but a church? In my whole life I’ve always been a church boy. Since I was a kid I was raised in a going-to-church habit every Sunday. Stepped into teenage years, I was active in a church that made me constantly involved in it almost everyday. Everything SEEMED VALID and fine until I realized that a church is more than its music and its great sermon. A church is about a SAFE PLACE. Just like how Jesus was a safe place.

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”
Isaiah 55:1

This verse was an open invitation to salvation. All they need to show at the entrance door is their hunger and thirst of Jesus, nothing else. The invitation didn’t ask them to dress in formal, put on a fake smile and a superior attitude, it simply asked for the people to COME AS THEY ARE.

I think a lot of Christians are missing out on coming to Jesus freely without the need to put a mask on. Worse condition, they come to a church hiding their struggles and acting like everything is fine because everybody in church looks so perfect.

Church needs to be a safe place for the congregation to be themselves. It is not a place for people to try to look good; church is a place for the people to look as they are.

How do we take part in changing the culture? It always STARTS WITH US. We have to be honest first, so the people can be honest then. This is why I am so into confessions and stories about brokenness. OUR BROKENNESS can be somebody else’s BREAKTHROUGH story. Don't keep it to yourself.

Church needs to be a safe place where people are COMFORTABLE with being who they are. Where people are telling real struggles and giving encouragement to each other.

Take the invitation and take the MASK OFF. Be free.
